Signal Service Dogs provides an affordable and unique way for anyone, 14 years or older, suffering from a debilitating disability (mental and/or physical) that are of able body and mind to have a service dog that will perform tastks specific to them and their needs.
A 15 week course that will equip qualified clients with the knowledge and skills to train their own service dogs under Signal Service Dog's guidance. As well as training, the course will cover everything from; dog behaviour, body language, Newfoundland and Labrador laws, health, wellness, dealing with the public and outings to practice what is learned in class and apply it to real world scenarios.
The dogs chosen for this program are of a specific temperment and must pass an evaluation to be accepted and trained as a service dog. If an individual does not have an acceptable dog, Signal Service Dogs will help find the right dog for the family and the program.
The advantage to offering a course like this is that it becomes an empowering process! As the dogs learn more, clients see they can succeed and start to feel more in control of their lives. At the same time, being surrounded by people with similar disabilities creates a safe supportive environment.
